“Washoku Umeshu” means traditional Japanese cuisine.
Umeshu provides a citrus note that is both sweet and sour, making the drink a perfect complement to most Japanese food.
We will introduce some Washoku that go well with Umeshu.
- Sushi
As a kind of Japanese traditional liquor, Umeshu is often eaten with Sushi.
Most Sushi rolls are compatible with Umeshu, so you can pick your favorite Sushi roll.
However, when purchasing or preparing your Sushi, focus on spicy rolls and rolls that have shrimp and crab in them. The flavors of these rolls will complement Umeshu.
We also recommend that you serve your plum wine warm (by heating it in a small saucepan on your stovetop for a couple of minutes) or mix it with hot tea when eating sushi.
——Sashimi
Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy consisting of fresh raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces and often eaten with soy sauce. It is always used to make Sushi. Therefore, Umeshu pairs well with not only Sushi but also Sashimi due to the sweet and sour Umeshu enhances the natural flavors of the raw fish.
- A savory chicken or fish meal
A light-flavored chicken or fish meal goes well with Umeshu too. You can taste Umeshu and not be influenced by some seasonings which have strong flavors.
There is a list of savory chicken or fish meals in Washoku.
- Oyakodon(chicken and egg rice bowl):a one-bowl meal consisting of a bed of rice topped with chicken and egg (hence the name ‘oyako’, meaning ‘parent and child’) and seasoned with soy sauce, mirin, and dashi.
- Tekkadon:a simple Japanese dish that consists of steamed, vinegar-flavored rice that is topped with pieces of sashimi-style, raw tuna.
No matter what your favorite umeshu drinking style is, there are some Japanese traditional cuisines to match it.
Some Japanese people like enjoying their meals and drinking Umeshu at the same time.
How about you? Would you like to try to enjoy Umeshu and Washoku at the same time too?
